Part of what I do professionally is to teach workshops to students in schools. Most of my work is done in schools in and around Saratoga Springs, schools in the Adirondacks, and schools near Albany, NY. This page is created with the intention of showing off the sorts of books that the students that I have worked with have made. I intend to continually add more images to this page. Enjoy browsing!

lots of great ideas!

Great books! Isn’t this much better than playing with phone or notebook…. I always try to pass on my love for handmade books but so many people have no clue what I’m talking about.

…which is exactly why I created this blog, because I always find it frustrating to explain to people what I am talkng about when I tell them I teach book arts!

This is a great way to explain what you do. I may do the same thing! I love the flower-pot book.

It would be great if you would do the dsame thing! I’ve loved looking through your site, seeing the projects that you’ve done with classes: it would be a delight to browse through a long page of your images.

Hi Paula, these are lovely works. Really like them. I actually have a question. Do you have any experience in making dioramas or tunnel books? I’m thinking about doing one for a uni project very soon and an grateful for any advice.

My first bit of advice is to make a tunnel book, not a diorama, simply because the tunnel book has such a delightful sense of mystery and surprise. Do a google image search for “Ed Hutchins Tunnel Books.” For directions, see http://philobiblon.com/gbwarticle/hutchins1.PDF good luck. Send photos!

Thank you Paula, I will look more into the tunnel books. The only thing that I’m not so sure about when I look at the PDF is how it will come out almost like an accordion. Basically I’m not entirely sure how to fold it but I’ll have another look and just try. Have you tried one yourself?
