Book Arts Summer In Salem will be welcoming Mary Howe this coming weekend. We will be graced by an exhibition of Howe’s work, which opens on Saturday July 9, 3 -5 PM, as well two workshops on July 9 and July 10, both at North Main Gallery here in Salem, New York.
I haven’t met Mary Howe, nor have I yet seen her actual book arts pieces, but everyone I know who is familiar with her work speaks so highly of the work that I looking forward to seeing a show of these works. Her background in printmaking, textile design and book arts inform her work.
From what I understand, Howe’s work is full of exploration and mystery. Each piece goes through a metamorphisis as the inside is previewed …
…her attention to color, form and detail is hinted at….
…then is fully revealed.
Saturday and Sunday morning Mary Howe will be offering workshops. Saturday’s workshop will teach Paste Papers.
This is a workshop that I am definitely signing up for. Paste Papers have a special place in my heart, and it’s always a treat to be able to experience someone else’s way of doing something that I already love.
Paste Papers by Mary Howe
Sunday morning’s workshop will be about using paste papers to make containers for …. whatever! If I have the opportunity to learn how to make containers for artwork in a three-hour workshop five minutes from my house, there is certainly no way that I will miss it.
